She was born on February 19, 2000.  She was the smallest in the litter and had a little white on the toes of her right rear foot.  Ruth, a first time mother, decided the umbilical cord was still a little too long and in her zealous effort to shorten it, caught the top of the pup's left rear foot in her grinding teeth, lacerating the top of the foot, removing the skin and hair from the top of the two center toes.  Never having had anything like this happen before I was completely disheartened. She was given a red yarn collar and we continued with the whelping.  After the last pup was born I bundled them all up and off we went to the vet for a post-natal check-up, where he assured me the foot would probably be all right.  But in my mind I was ready to accept the fact that this little puppy would be a companion rather than a show prospect.  Little did I know she would bloom in my heart.

While trying to decide what to name her, I happened to watch the movie "Godspell" on television.  Since I was one of the "flower children generation", it seemed appropriate that her name would be Serendipity's Flower Power... and she would be called  "Lily"

27: Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
28: If then God so clothe the grass, which is today in the field, and tomorrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
29: And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
30: For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
31: But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
